Cross Sections and Materials#

General

  • Cross section dialogue for circle / annular section: internal revision (code).

  • Cross section dialogue for standard steel profiles:

    • Faster selection of profiles.

    • All table are sorted in ascending order.

Feature

  • Materials for Canadian standard CSA added.

  • New warning for shear connections of non-metallic materials with welding. (230728)

  • New warning for shear connection with no material at end stage. (230728)

  • New error message for wrong type of work law.

  • An automatic refinement is done for a valid shear deformation area Ay and Az if the input of the relative element size is negative (CTRL SDIV < 0) or not set.

Bugfix

  • Cross section dialogs for beam, T-beam, edge beam and column: correction for the case of fixing intermediate or lateral bars.

  • Cross Section Editor (SOFiPLUS): correction of the modified layer number at reinforcements in the case of re-opening the dialog. (231711)

  • Country codes for Slovakia, Czechia, Israel and Congo corrected.

  • Wrong default safety for prestress steel (old DIN 18800) corrected.

  • Wrong wind reference for Poland corrected.

  • The warning about jumps in shear stiffness was a little too strict. (230728,231410)

  • Corrections for ACI 318:

    • Strength acc. 22.2.2.4.3.

    • Elastic modulus considering mean density acc. 19.2.2.1 (a).

    • Default lightweight concrete with 115 lb/ft3.

    • Check input of mean density for normal concrete to calculate elastic modulus.

    • Using calculated mean density for output value.

    • New warning for illegal density for E modulus calculation.

  • Minimum shear reinforcement acc. DIN corrected.

  • Shear deformation areas for polygons with inclined lines were sometimes determined inaccurately using the boundary element method (BEM 3).

  • Dynamic allowance acc. to EN + NA’s for fatigue check corrected: (231165)

    • Values corrected (changed) for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Finland, Netherlands, Original EN (for Portugal, Norway, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, …)

    • For reinforcing steel and prestressing steel acc. to Eurocode and DIN, straight bars with a diameter of 28 mm are assumed for determining the specification of the dynamic stress range.

    • Maximum thickness TMAX for reinforcing and prestressing steel is therefore no longer exported automatically.

  • More precise tolerance for straight lines of separated shear part areas, torsional equivalent area and crack areas. (231981)

  • Sometimes the polygon of the equivalent hollow section was saved incompletely. The intersection of the polygon with shear cuts could sometimes not be determined correctly as a result. So the effective width and the torsional resistance of the cut could be wrong.

Traffic Loader#

Feature

  • Elements of a load train used to load a traffic lane are now visualized with their corresponding units.

Moving Load Train Analysis#

Feature

  • The SSD Task Moving Load Train Analysis provides the option to store the loads and all results of the time steps of a train passage.

Earthquake RSA - Buildings#

Feature

  • Advanced group stiffness modifiers for membrane, plate bending, and shear behavior offer engineers full flexibility to adjust the structural behavior of shell elements.

  • Comprehensive description of the implementation of shell elements, including the integration of stiffness modifiers, is available now in the FEABENCH documentation.

Plastic Hinges & Performance Categories#

General

  • Reference materials are denoted in the Material Properties and Force-Deformation Curves report tables.

Bugfix

  • Improvements to the delivered default material limit strains.

  • Prevent spurious behavior during plastic hinge calculations in cases where performance categories are omitted but were used previously.

Thermal Analysis of Cross Sections#

Bugfix

  • The following improvements to the task Thermal Analysis were made:

    • In some cases, existing cross sections were overwritten. The new cross section number, respecting the defined offset, is now used consistently. (231420)

    • The identifiers for the reinforcements defined by the task is now written out with unique, increasing numbers, thus avoiding a warning by the AQUA module. (231420)

Design of Concrete Columns#

Feature

  • It is now possible to select the combination rules the COLUMN design tasks should use. (230156)

Bugfix

  • A printout was created for some chapters, even if it was selected in the settings that it should not be printed. (230283)

  • Improvements in the recognition of user defined combination rules for fire design.

  • In the Task “Column Design Assistant” the following bugs had been solved:

    • When selecting no output for the Design Groups an error has occoured.

    • Load cases that are deselected are no longer taken into account in the calculation.

    • In some cases the task crashes, this has been solved. (231511)

Design of Concrete Beams#

Bugfix

  • The deflection calculation taking creep and shrinkage effects into account has been corrected in the following points:

    • It is now possible to define the creep and shrinkage factor individually. (230070)

    • Correction of a bug in the calculation of the shrinkage coefficient kh.

    • Corrected calculation of βds and βas for shrinkage values.

    • The ideal cross section values now correctly take into account the position of the reinforcement.

    • Improvements in the calculation of stiffnesses.

Design Checks for Composite Cross Sections#

Bugfix

  • Doubled sections (left/right) at the same position on a design element were not processed correctly in some cases.

Viewer#

Interactive System Visualization Tool

General

  • Various performance and stability improvements.

  • Changed default visibility of duct and tendon axes: Now disabled by default.

Feature

  • Added auto synchronization: The Viewer will react to any relevant change in the CDB database.

  • Added support of interpolated thin-wall cross-sections with non-effective width.

  • Updated behavior for system type, gravity direction, and/or system unit changes: Projects can now be updated without requiring a restart.

  • Introduced the help menu in the context toolbar for quick access to help and release notes.

  • Added a home button near the view cube, visible when the mouse cursor is close to it: Clicking the button resets the camera position and performs a zoom extents.

  • Implemented a message to inform users when the database version is not supported by the current Viewer version.

  • Added support for ASE load cases resulting from divergent non-linear calculations.

Bugfix

  • Fixed rendering issues for deformed quads using an high deformation factor.

  • Resolved missing deformations of cables in specific cases.

  • Fixed support for special characters in screenshot file names.

  • Corrected incorrect visualization of quads when changing the rendering type (flat/volume) with deformations enabled.

Result Viewer#

Graphical and Tabular Post-Processing

Feature

  • A new option has been provided under File User Options Result Viewer General to control the behavior of saving groups in the RESULTS file. (229559)

Bugfix

  • When determining the cross-section strains from internal forces, the internal force Mb was added with the wrong sign.

  • Extreme values in the graphic were placed incorrectly when they were displayed as text.

  • Do not display invalid values in the graphic. (231252)

  • Sometimes the reinforcement stresses were not displayed if more than 32 reinforcement materials were defined in the database. (231770)

  • Date and time were not displayed correctly in the protocol dialog.

  • Design Element geometry is now corrected when it is defined along an axis (DGEO AXIS) and beam elements on the axis are selected (DSEL BEAM).

SOFiLOAD#

Loads and Load Functions

Feature

  • Extension of the Load Take Down command LTD: Horizontal loads can now be transferred. Resulting moments from the lever arm of the storey levels (M = Fh × z) can be applied as a force couple. See also Teddy example file ‘loadtakedown_horizontal.dat’ for details.

Bugfix

  • LTD: Fixed a bug when using groups as source or target selection.

  • The designation of Canadian load trains has been updated to “CSA-S6-19,” in accordance with the 2019 edition of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.

  • Eccentricity input via the COPY command for railway load trains will only be considered as load eccentricity, but it will not additionally shift the position of the tracks in the lane.

TENDON#

Geometry and Forces of Tendons

Feature

  • Added CTRL SNAP for snapping beam intersections to begin/end of beams. (231507)

  • Trigger warning if eccentricity is too large. (231376)

  • Added CTRL OFFI/OFFN to control the intersection offsets in normal and inplane (for quads) direction.

Bugfix

General Structural Analysis of FE Structures

General

  • Moved Teddy examples for timber analysis from ‘special’ to new folder ‘timber’.

  • New Teddy example ‘timber_8x8_matrix_3D-system.dat’ for timber-concrete composite slabs analysis in 3D systems.

Bugfix

  • HASE nonlinear halfe space contact PLAS DPDS extended to the inner region of slabs.

  • Torsion on an angle rod modelled with quad-elements: Saint Venant stiffness on the quad corner improved.

  • Dynamic eigenvalues: print of activated masse corrected for mixed deformation and torsional eigenmodes.

ELLA#

Bugfix

  • Improvements to the calculation of centrifugal loading.

  • Eccentricity input via the POSL command for railway load trains will not shift the position of the tracks in the lane.

AQB#

Bugfix

  • Punching: calculation of beta according equation (6.39): moment around center of perimeter corrected in rare cases.

  • Punching: plot improved for end of walls at slab edges.

  • Punching with tendons: concrete normal stress corrected in analysis of for VRd,c:vmin in equation (6.47). (231967)

  • Austria: Minimum reinforcement for crack width according 7.3.2 equation (7.1) corrected (now same as german annex). (231753)

  • Punching Austria: country value k according 6.4.5(4) set to 1.65.
